Berghain celebrates a decade of art in new book, ‘Kunst im Klub’
Berghain is well-known for its weekend-long parties powered by relentless techno, and its formidable bouncer (and part-time photographer) Sven. Many are less aware of the existence of a contemporary art gallery within the club. This is by design; because Berghain and most other Berlin clubs expressly forbid photographs, the art gallery must be experienced in the moment.
A new book from the club, Kunst im Klub, celebrates a decade of “visual art, music, architecture, human bodies, and mind.” Enlisted artists collaborated and contributed pages of interviews, photos, illustrations, stories, essays, poems and conversations in both German and English. A few of these artists include Wolfgang Tillmans, Norbert Bisky, Marc Brandenburg, Carsten Nicolai, bouncer Sven Marquardt, Ali Kepenek, Friederike von Rauch, Sarah Schoenfeld, Piotr Nathan and Viron Erol Vert.
Kunst im Klub / Art in the Club is available here.
