[UPDATED] Elected Officials and residents still fighting against Time Warp US; festival will relocate to 39th Street Pier
Updae 4:13pm EST: Time Warp has been relocated to 39th Street Pier, the site of Time Warp US 2014.
From residents to elected officials, Time Warp‘s return to New York hasn’t been welcomed. Just eight days before the festival is set to bring a plethora of underground’s largest stars back, local leaders have become increasingly vocal about their lack of trust. Claiming that the festival’s organizers failed to notify residents or representatives of the area, a number of officials came forward at a press conference yesterday.
“Nothing was discussed with us. We were just informed that a rave would be taking place here,” said the area’s councilwoman, Laurie Cumbo. In contrast to the councilwoman’s statements, ID&T has insisted they’ve met with city, state and NYPD officials.
“We focus on working really closely … with the appropriate medical, security and event staff to produce an event that, from the moment you walk in the door to the moment you walk out, you are fully immersed in a beautiful, safe environment,” said Brian Tamke of ID&T.
Assemblyman Walter Mosley believes that TIme Warp’s promoters have ample time to find a new location, as he passionately stated during yesterday’s conference: “We are eight days away from the first day of this rave concert. We believe that is enough time for this administration to change course and find a new venue. Ultimately, that’s what we want: a resolution and then on top of that, an explanation of how we got here in the first place.”
