Good Morning Mix: TWRK and the legendary DJ Premier hit Diplo and Friends
Diplo hosts one of the best radio shows around, holding down a long-running Saturday night slot on BBC Radio 1. Behind a simple premise of inviting his friends and special guests to come and deliver their best mixes over the airwaves, Diplo and Friends is just another tastemaking tool in the endless super-producer appeal that describes the Mad Decent executive. Wes recently invited label-mates TWRK for the first hour of his show, before bringing in the legendary DJ Premier for the final hour of the show.
Benzi and Esentrik are no strangers to Diplo and Friends, so they jump right in with cuts from Fetty Wap, Dillon Francis, Skrillex, Jackal, NGHTMRE, Drake, and of course a handful of original TWRK material. Working through some heavy-handed dance cuts and some contemporary hip-hop, TWRK lay the groundwork before Premier hits the decks.
Described by a humbled Diplo as his “hero and inspiration,” naming the legendary beat maker, “one of the most important producers in the history of hip-hop,” DJ Premier drops cuts from Steve Miller Band, Pink Floyd, M.O.P., Nas, and Rage Against The Machine, satisfying all tastes with his sophisticated selections.
