Black Butter‘s A&R team are sure to be ending 2015 with a smug look on their faces. With more talent unearthed than the vast majority of UK independents on the beat right now, the year has seen them channel all shapes and sizes of national talent towards the spotlight. Latest golden boys NVOY kick started things with ‘All Night’ back in August, blending both fresh and more traditional club hallmarks for their inaugural label offering. It was a promising start for the futuristic R&B advocates, but ‘Higher’ is the most serious sign of life we’ve seen for the act so far.
More closely cleansed for the club crowds whilst flowing with a supple and soulful edge, there’s a sense that NVOY have achieved an organic crossover moment with more clarity and unpretentious form than any of their UK peers. This record begs attention both on and off the dance floor, adding to a seamless year for Black Butter and a serious peak in stamina for newcomers NVOY.
