Steve Angello defends streaming market and misdirected industry anger

With his debut album Wild Youth penned for release on November 20, renowned Swedish House Mafia cohort Steve Angello is using the lead up to this career landmark to set the record straight on his take regarding the streaming market. Addressing a web summit in Dublin recently, the legendary dj/producer identified labels as the core problem in streaming’s ongoing growth and the misconception artists hold surrounding its sustainability.

Referring to downloading and streaming as “the evolution of music services,” Angello suggests that the outspoken critics of streaming are publicity hounds who champion next generation distribution companies such as Kobalt. Further: “A lot of people are fighting it, but I think it’s the best thing that ever happened.” Radiohead manager Brian Message also joined Angello in his feelings of misdirected anger, adding to a debate that indicates labels need to be becoming more fair and transparent in the way they take their releases and artists into the streaming world.
