Johan Wedel has been around for quite some time – his production talents noted and creative energy celebrated at every turn. Returning more recently as WDL with plans for a career marker LP, debut single ‘Stardust’ pairs the experimental Swede alongside rising songsmith Elliphant for a straight-up trippy first taste of his renaissance project. With diced beats and eerie piano hooks in tow, ‘Stardust’ pairs Elliphant’s infectious vocal work with a chilled fusion of European electronica and hip-hop. There genuinely isn’t another record like this on the beat right now, and whilst it’s certainly not cut from the more obvious Swedish mould for well-oiled electronic pop, WDL’s brand of jazz soaked trip-hop truly hits the spot.
