LCD Soundsystem break the silence after 5 year hiatus with ‘Christmas Will Break Your Heart’

Tis the season. The giving spirit is all around and holiday cheer is upon us, perhaps best encapsulated by a solid month’s worth of the same gleeful Christmas tunes inescapably playing everywhere we go. But with the jovial holiday tunes running ad nauseam these days, leave it to James Murphy and company to offer up some beautiful melancholy for Christmas this year. That’s right, LCD Soundsystem is back, and its with the dreamy, dreary synth-pop that we have been missing since 2011 when the band announced its break up. LCD is stuffing everyone’s stockings with a heartbreakingly magnificent composition that James Murphy has been “singing to himself for the past 8 years.”

As each year comes and goes, the miserably charming new Christmas tune fell by the wayside each year. Now it has come to fruition this year as James, Pat, and the crew came together with time finally permitting, signaling perhaps the beginning of the reunion we have all been waiting for. With Coachella rumors swirling earlier this year and vehement denial from the band and DFA Records, maybe “Christmas Will Break Your Heart” is precursory to the real Christmas present we will all get from LCD Soundsystem come the spring.
