New Instagram photo breeds hope in expedited release of The xx’s third album
The xx have been teasing fans with new music for well over a year now, posting the occasional snippet of their studio sessions through their social media platforms. Though the three seem to be in no rush, their most recent upload to Instagram recently generated a new wave of hope for something new arriving in the tangible future. Captioned “Winter studio hibernation,” the photo depicted Romie, Oliver, and Jamie appearing engrossed in setting up their studio for presumably creating a bevy of new music. If the finished product of their time in the studio turns out to be a 2016 album release, it would be the third in the band’s repertoire.
Despite having been on hiatus as a band, Jamie Smith under his alias, Jamie xx, has kept a busy schedule throughout the past year. Releasing his debut solo album In Colour, Smith quickly carved out a place among the hierarchy newly-recognized electronic artists while using his influence for good in founding the Good Times vinyl shop in London. His bandmates played a significant behind-the-scenes role during this time as well, participating heavily in In Colour’s production.
