1991 – Sprites (Original Mix)
MTA Records‘ stake in the UK drum & bass circuit is not to be overlooked. Launching into 2016 after a year of affirmative unveiling of talent across the national clubbing landscape, British newcomer 1991 acts as the first pivotal reminder of where the label continues to make sparing yet inherently powerful contributions to the genre. The fluid grooves and distant vocal work of Pat Fulgoni make ‘Sprites’ a devilishly intimate yet effective chunk of UK drum & bass. It’s reassuring to see a label now more commonly associated with cutting down the stereotypes surrounding club music able to pull genuinely interesting shapes within an outspoken and increasingly promising musical space.
