MDMA overdose confirmed as cause of death for HARD Summer victim
The deaths of Tracy Nguyen and Katie Dix at HARD Summer 2015 catalyzed a major shift in perspective toward rave culture in the Los Angeles, motivating County Supervisor Hilda Solis to propose a countywide rave ban. The teenagers’ deaths led to the formation of a task force to set in place measures to facilitate the prevention of further fatalities.
Six months after her passing, 18-year old Tracy Nguyen’s autopsy has publicly revealed that an MDMA overdose was the sole cause of death. LA Weekly reports:
“A teenage raver who perished after attending the Hard Summer festival in Pomona died from MDMA ‘intoxication,’ a coroner’s official said today. No other drugs were mentioned in the toxicology report for 18-year-old Tracy Nguyen of West Covina, he said.”
19-year old Katie Dix’s death is also presumed to be due to an overdose. However, LA Weekly further reports that “The cause of death in Dix’s case is still unknown as her toxicology report has not been completed.”
