Deadmau5 releases hard-edged ‘Carp,’ announces forthcoming mau5hax tour

Deadmau5 appears to be holding himself to a schedule. A month ago, he released two tracks, “00001” and “00002.”  Two weeks later, he followed up with “ent_Hope_clk_thme” and “ent_open_Alice_02.”  Today, February 9, we have “Carp.”  Each release is posted without comment but it’s clear that the Toronto native is building the hype for his mysterious “Project Entropy” — his upcoming, brand-new arena tour.

“Carp” opens with a continuation of the ambient direction Deadmau5 has been taking with these releases, particularly finding similarities to “00002” and “ent_open_Alice_02.” It’s all soft plucks, percussive elements with delay, and ethereal pads that build before abruptly falling away.

A kick drum, snare, and distorted bass come in with little warning, harkening back to a sound similar to that of his older releases. Meanwhile, Zimmerman’s use of gentle chords play the listener out, making this less of a coherent track and more of a tease of three different ideas. All the same, color us excited for the diverse and ambitious project Deadmau5 is pursuing in his new in-home studio.

Further, the mau5 revealed via his live set that a mau5hax tour is in the works. Slated to take place in major cities like Toronto and Miami, the tour will commence on the east coast within the next few weeks.
