DA Premiere: Chymera returns to Josh Wink’s Ovum Recordings with epic ‘Canavan Calling’

Over the past twenty-plus years, Josh Wink’s Philadelphia-based label Ovum Recordings has built a reputation as one of the best imprints in the world for electronic music, hosting an impressive roster of international heavy hitters and fresh faces while rolling out a diverse selection of dancefloor crushers and left-field sonics. For the label’s latest release, they’ve tapped Irish producer Chymera for two tracks of genre-bending emotive goodness.

With a newly acquired original Minimoog synthesizer in tow, Chymera delivers a crystalline textured two-track EP entitled The Divided Self, referencing the watershed ’60s existential psychology book. “Canavan Calling” is the more urgent of the cuts, starting off with a thick mutating bassline while twinkling synths enter the fore and build a starlit atmosphere. A screeching synth line kicks off a huge tension-filled buildup before the original bassline knocks back into focus, undoubtedly creating some special moments in the club.

It’s a huge release for Chymera, playing on his strengths of boundary-pushing melodic house and techno while using the pristine glisten of the original Minimoog at his behest.
