Richie Hawtin unveils a world tour to test-drive ‘PLAYdifferently’ technology
Shortly after Richie Hawtin’s announcement that ENTER. would not be returning to Ibiza, the Canadian magnate announced the next chapter in his career as a foray into the tech side of the industry. Hawtin unveiled his new project, PLAYdifferently, with Andy Rigby-Jones, Allen & Heath, and Audiotronix at NAMM this past January. Their goal is to “drive the electronic music community forward” with a line of handcrafted instruments, beginning first with a mixer — the details of which remain shrouded in mystery.
Now, as PLAYdifferently’s first product nears its launch, Hawtin has announced a world tour titled “PLAYdifferently presents: Prototypes Tour.” As implied by the title, the goal is to test-drive the new instruments, and what better way to do so than in front of international audiences across multiple venue settings? The tour will begin at LA’s Sound Nightclub on March 14, where Ean Golden will provide support. Other accompanying DJs listed on the tour include DJ Tennis, Chris Liebing, Dubfire, and more.
