Bob Moses delivers stellar Essential Mix debut

The name Bob Moses is on the tip of every tastemaker’s tongue. Since releasing their debut album Days Gone By on Domino Records, the duo of Jimmy Vallance and Tom Howie have won over the hearts of the underground and mainstream alike, even landing on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

Pete Tong has recognized Bob Moses’ formidable rise to acclaim, tapping the duo for their debut Essential Mix. Spanning two hours of eclectic curation from Canadian pair — largely music outside of their own catalogue — the offering is a far-cry from their live shows, albeit just as engrossing.

“Making an Essential Mix not only gave us the opportunity to get excited about new music and showcase some of the tunes that are inspiring us lately but also to revisit our own sound and re-evaluate how we see ourselves among the musical landscape and where we might be going.”

While the mix begins in rather docile territory, it goes on to explore genres as diverse as breaks and psychedelic rock. With selections from the likes of Four Tet, Roman Flügel, Rival Consoles and more, the tracklist is brimming with beautiful left-of-field offerings. When their own compositions enter the fray, the mix truly comes to life.

When all is said and done, Bob Moses have delivered one of the standout mixes of the last few months — a likely contender for Essential Mix of the Year.
