deadmau5 teases new track, ‘Sick Days’

Say what you will about deadmau5. He doesn’t let his Twitter feuds — most recently with Kanye — get in the way of his growth as a musician. Whether it’s a brief glimpse into his palatial home studio or his mobile production space for his bus tour, the Canadian producer is always experimenting. Now, Joel Zimmerman teases his latest work created in the Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Bitwig Studio. He had previously preferred to used the DAWs Ableton LIVE and Cubase.

Entitled “Sick Days”, mau5′ most recent track is more in line with the truncated ambient clips than the nine-minute progressive epics he’s released earlier this year. Described as “mucking about with bitwig” in the SoundCloud description, there’s not much to this most recent upload. A simple house beat with no variation serves as a foundation for airy plucks to float over. A soft, buzzing bass provides the most melodic life, sometimes accompanied by delay, others left clean. In keeping with its informal nature, “Sick Days” ends on an abrupt note. It’s unclear if “Sick Days” is a tease of deadmau5′ upcoming Project Entropy. Listen to the snippet of the track below.
