Seven Lions, Aly & Fila, and MaRLo remix Ferry Corsten’s trance classic, ‘Beautiful’
Garnering worldwide recognition back in the late 1990s, trance legend Ferry Corsten has been one of the biggest influences in the genre for nearly two decades. The Dutch DJ and producer is known for his mastery of deep, thoughtful, and uplifting trance anthems, and played an integral role in making the genre popular around the world in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In recent years, he has been keeping his fans entertained through his weekly interactive radio show “Corsten’s Countdown.” Now, to celebrate ten years since its original release as part of his second artist album L.E.F., Corsten has enlisted a few friends to remix one of his best-known tracks, “Beautiful.”
The remix from Seven Lions is a throwback to the classic melodic dubstep sound that originally made Jeff Montalvo famous. This was the sound that got the attention of Above & Beyond, with Montalvo’s contest-winning remix of their 2011 track “You Got To Go.” Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila give the track more of a hard trance edge in their version, with resonant basses and a fast, consistent beat no doubt influenced by the best trance of the period during which the original was released.
MaRLo brings a softer, more emotional mix, with orchestral elements that speak to the ethereal side of the original, bringing the enduring vocals and synth lead to the forefront.
It’s always a gamble to go back and try to make an old classic new again, especially one as loved by trance veterans as Ferry Corsten’s “Beautiful.” Luckily, Corsten chose the remixing artists wisely, getting a few different twists on the classic without straying too far from what made the track popular in the first place.
