Getter – Rip N Dip (Original Mix)
Tanner Petulla, better known as Getter, may be the most trending producer of bass music in 2016. Since exploding into the public eye as the Savant of “Suh” with his now iconic video lampoon of stoner culture in January, the producer has been all but ubiquitous in the realm of dance music and beyond. Amidst the wildfire popularity of “Suh Dude,” and the rest of his vast catalogue of sophomorically brilliant videos with Nick Colletti and Dillon Francis, it can be easy to overlook the fact that Getter is more than a keen comedian and cultural meme.
In actuality, Petulla has been one of dubstep’s reliable producers; He has purveyed some of the scene’s heaviest music with religious consistency since first broaching the industry five years ago with his severely underrated remix of Flux Pavilion’s “Bass Cannon.” Fortunately, Getter has been able to channel the mass appeal he’s gained with his recent viral videos to further his presence and influence as a talented producer. His new EP, Radical Dude!, will be released Friday, March 11 on OWSLA.
Getter develops the EP’s first cut, “Rip N Dip,” from his primary forte: primal, aggressive dubstep. Characterized by cumbersome kicks and shrieking synthesis, “Rip N Dip” is an electrifying preview for the Radical Dude! EP as a whole, and for what is likely to come from Getter’s future releases. With the high profile alliances that Getter has recently gained, and the gargantuan popularity of his comedic cultural presence, perhaps this EP could catalyze a resurgence in the endangered genre that Petulla has refused to abandon.
