James Blake drops two unreleased tracks on his BBC Radio 1 show
James Blake’s 1-800-Dinosaur radio show for BBC has, in recent months, become the place to go for new material from the English singer/producer. First, there was the Simon and Garfunkel cover. Then, the incredible “Modern Soul.” And now, Mr. Blake has seen fit to grace us with not one, but two new songs: “RPG” and “Evening Fell Hard For Us.”
The first tune, a collaboration with London grime MC Trim, is a brash and brassy number full of wonky synths that spark and slide to navigate their way around Trim’s acrobatic vocals. The second tune, a Blake solo, stands in sharp contrast to the first. It consists of only a quiet synth chord line and layers of Blake’s voice that swirl and swell around each other in a delicate balance. It’s a soft, simple tack, but perfectly executed by Blake’s tender, soulful voice and elegant songwriting.
Stay tuned for news on the release dates for these tracks as well details on Blake’s highly anticipated third album, Radio Silence, which is expected to be released sometime this year.
