Justin Jay releases ‘Weatherman’ alongside news of his debut album

Those who caught Justin Jay‘s performance at the Do Lab stage during Coachella last year experienced the utter merriment that ensued when he dropped what was then an unreleased track entitled “Weatherman.” Nearly a year later and the extended mix of “Weatherman” has been released as part of the Justin Jay & Friends project.

Featuring Josh Taylor’s emollient vocals, Benny Bridges’ lush guitar licks, and Henry Was bringing the vigor on drums, the track is an eight minute journey that’s aloof yet noticeably energizing at the same time. Resting in the vast space that lies between electronic music and rock, this release is a refreshing reminder that sounds, both organic and auxiliary, can, and often do, work better when combined.

Along with the release of “Weatherman” has come news of Justin Jay’s debut album, Fantastic Voyage. Foretold to revolve around a central theme of exploration, the young producer shared the following details around his upcoming imprint:

Unlike a normal album that comes out all at once on one label, this project is broken up across a few EPs on a bunch of labels that reflect how different these songs are from each other. But there’s a strong underlying connection: they were all made by me and my friends and they all work in my sets in between the dirtybird bombs and techno jams that i play.

Moving forward, fans can expect a new track from Fantastic Voyage to be released each week.
