Dancing Astronaut’s Guide to Miami Music Week 2016
Once a year, the dance music community flocks to Miami for one of the most significant gatherings in the industry: Miami Music Week. These are the seven exalted days that set the tone for the remainder of the year. From pool parties, to techno cruises, and all-night club showcases, Miami Music Week offers a staggering amount of options for dance fans of any genre. As the venerated gathering approaches, we’ve broken down the must-see parties to help ease the decision-making process. Who: Art Department, Damian Lazarus, Hoj, Lee Burridge Where: Wall When: Wednesday, March 16, 11:30pm-5am Why you should care: Wall’s Wednesday affair promises to be one of the more surreal events with the week, bringing together some of the underground’s more spell-binding talents like Damian Lazarus and Lee Burridge. Tickets: Wantickets Who: Ardalan, Christian Martin, Claude VonStroke, and more Where: Trade When: Thursday, March 17, 10pm-5am Why you should care: There’s nothing more satisfying than getting down with the entire Dirtybird crew amid 80 degree weather, palm trees and the hustle and bustle of Collins Ave (though Trade is located just off the main road). We can tell you after last year’s 10-year celebration at Steam that Claude VonStroke and co throw a mean party. Tickets: RA Who: Pete Tong, Lauren Lane, Julia Govor, and more Where: Surfcomber Hotel When: Thursday, March 17,12pm-11pm Why you should care: Pete Tong is a dance music legend, and his Miami edition of All Gone Pete Tong has grown to be a South Beach staple. Also note this year’s female talent: Lauren Lane and Julia Govor. Need we say more? Tickets: Wantickets Who: Andhim, H.O.S.H., Super Flu and more Where: Treehouse When: Thursday, March 17, 10pm-5am Why you should care: Andhim certainly don’t perform in the US enough, and for their Miami showcase, they’ve tapped some equally esteemed guests in the form of H.O.S.H., Super Flu, Kolsch, and Roman Flügel. Tickets: Wantickets Who: Atish, Behrouz, Lee Burridge and more Where: Island Gardens When: Thursday, March 17, 12pm-12am Why you should care: After succeeding as one of last year’s most acclaimed parties, Do Not Sit By the Ocean returns for a beautiful outdoor party featuring an incredible array of underground talent in the form of Lee Burridge, Bedouin, Alex Niggeman and more. Tickets: RA Who: Fur Coat, Henry Saiz, Sasha Where: Biscayne Lady When: Thursday, March 17, 3pm-9pm Why you should care: A sunset cruise backed by the sounds of Sasha sounds like the perfect backdrop for your first date with your spring break significant other. Tickets: Wantickets Who: Hot Since 82, Matthias Tanzmann, Guti and more Where: Heart When: Thursday, March 17, 11pm-11am Why you should care: As one of the fastest-rising underground acts, Hot Since 82’s mastery of DJ’ing and producing is unrivaled. With Matthias Tanzmann, Guti and additional talent in tow, Knee Deep in Miami is slated to be one of the most popular events throughout the week. Tickets: Wantickets Who: Bob Moses, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, and more Where: Mana Wynwood When: Thursday, March 17, 10pm-10am Why you should care: When will you ever have the opportunity to see Bob Moses, Jamie Jones, and Lee Foss perform at the same party again? ETC! and more Where: Fifty Ultra Lounge When: Thursday, March 17, 2pm-8pm Why you should care: Having made its mark on the electronic music sphere nearly seven years ago, the annual Chicken & Beer will take place at Miami’s luxurious Fifty Ultra Lounge in the presence of Jillionaire, Ape Drums, and countless other bass stalwarts. RSVP: Eventbrite Who: Eric Prydz, Cirez D Where: MAPS When: Thursday, March 17, 11pm-4am Why you should care: Eric Prydz is one of the few artists who can sellout venues under two different monikers. Tickets: Sold Out Who: Above & Beyond, Arty, Moon Boots and more Where: RC Cola Plant When: Thursday, March 17, 10pm-5am Why you should care: Above & Beyond’s Miami Music Week appearances are often few and far between; the trio’s event at RC Cola Plant marks the one party where you are guaranteed to find them. The party continues at Trade with high-profile talent such as Maceo Plex, Agoria and Danny Daze. Tickets: RA Day 1: Adventure Club, Armand Van Helden, Shiba San and more Day 2: Amtrac, Bakermat, Autograf Where: Nikki Beach When: Friday, March 18 – Saturday, March 19, 12pm-5am Why you should care: Now in its sixth year, No Sugar Added has grown to fill the shoes of a mini-festival. Fans choosing to skip out on Ultra can instead opt for a calmer day party with tastemakers like Adventure Club, Bakermat and Amtrac. Bonus: Dancing Astronaut will be hosting a stage during the two-day affair. The dignified cruise and festival brand will fulfill its yearly Miami Music Week duties at a new venue: Cameo. In spite of downsizing from two nights to one, HARD vows to bring twice the amount of raucousness. Tickets: Sold out Who: Damian Lazarus, Sasha, Agoria, BLOND:ISH, Tiga, and more Where: TBA When: Saturday, March 19 – Sunday, March 20, 5am-5am Why you should care: Crosstown Rebels’ ‘Get Lost Miami’ takes the cake as Miami’s longest-running party, once again preparing to dish up 24 consecutive hours of music. Brace yourselves for an entire day’s worth of partying as Crosstown Rebels descends on downtown Miami and brings the very best of the underground. A stacked roster that includes some of the best acts in the underground, including Adriatique, Ardalan and DJ Tennis, Last Resort is the ideal finale for any fans looking to shy away from South Beach’s extravagance for Cafeina’s North’s downtown character.
