Mura Masa – What if I go? (Original Mix)
At the ripe age of 16, Alex Crossan, more commonly known by his alias Mura Masa, discovered Abelton Live and began making electronic music with an initial style akin to that of Hudson Mohawke. Three years, a mix tape, one coveted spot on Diplo and Friends, and an EP later, and the young producer has built an acclaimed body of work.
Toward the latter half of 2015, Crossan alerted fans to his forthcoming debut album by releasing the heavily percussive and airy single, “Love For That.” Now the producer has given another glimpse into his much-awaited imprint with the new song “What if I go?.”
The track may be the most potent demonstration yet of Crossan’s talent for working with isolated, clean, and driving sounds to produce a song that completely encapsulates the listener. “What if I go?” seeps in slowly, opening with muffled chatter and hallowing drums that give way to velvety smooth vocals which quickly grab hold, enveloping the listener like quicksand before exploding into a strung-out childlike octave at the break. It’s safe to say that Alex Crossan has once again created a production that makes a lasting impression and leaves listeners craving more.
