Nils Frahm celebrates Piano Day with four free releases and a 100+ track playlist

Nils Frahm honored Piano Day’s second edition in a particularly festive manner this year. The legendary pianist and composer gifted fans with a free download of four previously unreleased tracks from Solo, which he released last year during his inaugural holiday’s commencement celebration. Frahm accompanied his free giveaways with a thorough playlist containing 100+ additional pieces spanning a multitude of artists whose work is ethereal as his own.

Piano Day’s charitable nature stretches beyond free music. Knowing the struggles facing today’s generation of young musicians in a time where the arts are vastly under-appreciated, Frahm also gave away a piano to a Berlin community center while encouraging others to donate to those in need if they have the means. He topped off the day by drawing attention to his current mission of building the world’s tallest piano, asking fans to contribute.

Piano Day takes place on the 88th day of each year in reflection of the instrument’s 88 keys. We’ve laid out some of our favorites from the holiday below. Check out Frahm’s full list of 100+ Piano Day tracks here.
