WISH-TV asks ‘Who is Skrillex?’ and gets some interesting answers
Each year at the Indy 500, promoters bring in an impressive bill of artists to entertain the center-ring crowd. For 2016, the headliner is none other than bass music kingpin, Skrillex. Sonny Moore will be joined by fellow dance giants Martin Garrix, Zeds Dead, and DJ Mustard.
In light of the announcement, Indianapolis news network WISH-TV set out to the streets to find out a bit more about the general public’s knowledge of the artist. As it happens, the Indy locals are not very familiar with Skrillex’s work. While Sonny is no Prince — whom one interviewee requests for next year’s event — a few of the locals interviewed did recognize his name, or were at least willing to check out his performance.
Though it’s hard to believe that most people familiar with mainstream culture have not been assaulted by the synths of “Where Are Ü Now” or other famous Skrillex-backed productions, perhaps the video serves as a reminder to just how niche our culture may still be (while also providing a few good laughs).
