London’s Dense & Pika deal in a suitable balance of domineering techno and outright infectious club records. Returning to Drumcode this month with their first EP offering, the duo’s namesake track leans positively to the latter and a more stripped take on their versatile sound. “Calf” employs pounding kicks and sharp percussion with a strong industrial backbone, forging one of the most convincing minimalistic techno records of the past 12 months in the process. There’s something to be said about the state of Drumcode on the eve of their 20th anniversary celebrations, with Dense & Pika remaining a solid addition to its modern roster.
