Deorro pairs with merengue legend Elvis Crespo for ‘Bailar’
Big room EDM is beginning to fade in popularity as the music continues to evolve and corporate interests in its commercialization sparked by SFX’s collapse have begun to wane. Several major artists grasping this change at its beginning are reacting in different ways, attempting to return to genres they produced beforehand or even launching new labels or changing their musical direction to grasp new trends such as deep or future house.
Deorro’s embodiment of the music’s changing landscape comes in the form of a fusion between merengue and electronic, a combination of folk and modern trends pioneered by Avicii a few years before. The latino producer is aided by a legend in latin music; Elvis Crespo, whose hit “Suavemente” made him a household name. What follows is “Bailar,” which unfolds like a classic merengue tune but injected with a bounce house kick post-drop which succeeds in crossing over the two distinct types of music. The result is overwhelmingly traditional in nature, adding an intriguing flavor to Deorro’s typical sounds.
