DJ AM documentary to receive nationwide release

Nearly seven years after DJ AM‘s passing, As I Am: The Life and Times of DJ AM has found a distributor who will release the documentary nationwide. Independent distributor Abramorama will release the documentary May 27 in New York City, June 3 in Los Angeles, and then proceed to expand to theaters across the country.  The distributor is making a conscious effort to hit cities with substantial musical cultures, namely Austin, Cleveland, Las Vegas, Miami, and San Diego.

The film covers the career, death, and legacy of DJ AM — born Adam Goldstein. Director Kevin Kerslake received permission from Goldstein’s estate to create the documentary and it features numerous interviews with AM’s collaborators and those he inspired, including Diplo, A-Trak, Steve Aoki, Paul Oakenfold, Mark Ronson, and DJ Jazzy-Jeff.

The film had previously debuted at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where it received an honorable mention Voice award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration for educating the public about behavioral health.
