James Blake debuts new single and says his album is finished
Yesterday evening, James Blake made a surprise appearance on his BBC Radio residency, and greeted fans with some welcome news. The host of 1-800 Dinosaur took to the airwaves to announce that his third studio album, Radio Silence, is finally complete. Blake has already used his radio show as an outlet to give fans a taste of what the album will sound like, premiering “Modern Soul” and a host of other songs that may or may not be included. And, while he didn’t give a release date, James did let on that the new record will house a wealth of material, boasting 18 tracks, one of which is set to be over 20 minutes long.
Not content to tease his listeners with just news, however, Blake also debuted a new single from the upcoming release, entitled “Timeless.” Full of the singer/producer’s signature, haunting falsetto, the piece is everything fans could hope for in a James Blake track. Deep, moody bass lays the foundation for alluringly sparse chords and melodic textures, as the song builds from a bare drum beat to an enchanting haze of siren calls and aching layered vocals. It’s been a full three years since Blake’s last album, Overgrown, but, if “Timeless” is any indicator, Radio Silence will be well worth the wait.
