Lauren Cruz – Clandestine (Whereisalex Remix)
Experimental trap and bass music producer Whereisalex has quietly been amassing a strong, underground following on the strength of his supremely unique jazz-influenced style. His most recent release, an official remix of singer Lauren Cruz’s “Clandestine,” proves just why he’s such an exciting newcomer. Whereisalex has a penchant for subverting expectations while still working within an established stylistic framework, and “Clandestine” is packed full of things one would expect in a trap remix: brassy stabs, deep 808’s, chopped up, pitched around vocals, etc. But it also manages to be brimming with surprises, including jazz-inflected chords, creative drum panning, and atmospheric layering that sounds like shaking car keys.
Listen to “Clandestine” below, and hear exactly why Whereisalex should be on your radar.
