Skrillex to help fundraise for Burning Man art project
This summer, Skrillex will lend his talents to help fundraise the Space Whale art project. The sculpture is a 50-foot steel and stained glass rendering of a mother humpback whale and her calf whose bellies will skim the dusty playa at Burning Man this fall.
The May 27th event will feature performances by Vindata, PsyFi, and Richard Xavier. In addition to the music, the one night event promises art, a vendor village, live painting, fan participation, and loads of surprises.
Skrillex will be performing at the event for free and all proceeds will funnel into the project. The Pier Group and Android Jones helmed project has raised around $57,000 of an estimated $125,000 and backing from the Grammy award winning DJ will certainly boost contributions.
“It’s hard to even find the words for it. He’s super engaged with Burning Man and the arts community,” said Matt Schultz, lead artist for the “Space Whale,” of Skrillex. Projections of the work and information for donors is available at the project’s website.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. April 2 for between $30 and $50.
