Spring Awakening loses another venue with two months until festival
With only two months to go until gates are supposed to open, Chicago festival Spring Awakening is still having trouble locking down a new venue after their typical location was nabbed by an international soccer tournament for most of June. As if determined to continue its streak of bad luck, SFX-owned React Presents, who puts on Spring Awakening, has lost their backup venue as well.
Back in February, the festival announced that it would be taking place in Jackson Park this year, allowing it to expand to eight stages and some carnival rides. According to a Chicago Parks District spokesperson, however, this is no longer the case due to harsh neighborhood opposition.
Tickets are still on sale for the lineup-and-venue-less festival, and although they are without a doubt trying incredibly hard to lock down both, this could spell even more trouble for SFX who has seen its fair share of crises in the past year.
