Tampa’s only dance music club, The Amphitheater, has burnt down

Tampa residents have lost the city’s only dance music property. The Amphitheater, a club situated on 7th Avenue, was set ablaze early this morning when firefighters were called upon to alleviate the three-alarm fire. It is unknown how the nightclub caught fire, though it is suspected that the tragedy may be due in part to a welder conducting work on the building last night.

The fire was deemed under control at around 1:30am, but The Amphitheater has been declared a total loss. The club, owned by the same team behind Sunset Music Festival, was in the midst of preparing for the arrival of dance music titans including Morgan Page, Datsik and Ookay in the coming weeks.

UPDATE | Flames have completely engulfed the Amphitheatre in Ybor City, collapsing the Seventh Avenue club’s roof. Firefighters are now trying to keep the building from coming down.A welder’s torch may be to blame: https://shar.es/1jmwjL
