Austin music venue Vulcan Gas Company has been sold to owners of Bat Bar and Lux

Austin, Texas music venue Vulcan Gas Company has been handed over to a new set of owners for an undisclosed amount. Former owners Marc Piatkwoski and Susan Espinoza, who helped open Vulcan Gas Company’s doors in late 2013, sold the Sixth Street hotspot to Kirk and Nick Franceschini, owners of Bat Bar and Lux.

The two-story property holds just short of 700 patrons, and grew to be one of Austin’s most prominent hubs within the electronic music space. Having worked with local promoters including C3 Presents, Scoremore, Disco Donnie Presents and Transmission Events, Vulcan Gas Company earned itself a solid reputation in a neighborhood that for years lacked the gentrification it so desperately needed, or at least according to Espinoza.

One thing we found challenging, but also interesting, was the location,” Espinoza says. “Revitalizing a part of Austin that had been, in my opinion, neglected, and still is. So investing in a venue and putting music in a space that had been vacant for eight years was a way to bring something cool to a part of Austin that had turned into a crappy shot-bar zone.”

Despite funneling millions into the space’s electrical, plumbing and aesthetic, Vulcan’s original owners grew tired of competing with local event producers such as C3, best known for producing Austin City Limits and Lollapalooza, to name a few.

Vulcan Gas Company’s future is currently unknown, but stay tuned to Dancing Astronaut for further updates.
