Watch This: Gallant and Sufjan Stevens perform ‘Purple Rain’ at Coachella
With Prince‘s death still painfully fresh in the minds of his legions of fans, there has been a deluge of respect and admiration from a wide variety of musicians. Artists have already begun to release homages to The Purple One and with the second weekend of Coachella kicking off, it was a given that he would be honored in the Californian desert.
Up-and-coming R&B crooner Gallant teamed up once again with the eclectic Sufjan Stevens to deliver a stirring rendition of Prince’s classic, “Purple Rain.” Performing on stage aptly draped in purple lights, the duo and their extensive band don’t take many liberties with the track. Gallant lends a healthy does of emotion by pushing his voice to the very limits of its upper register, before leading the crowd into a singalong as their performance moves towards its conclusion.
