Hotel Garuda – Smoke Signals (Electric Mantis Remix)
So far, 2016 has been kind to Hotel Garuda; the duo have signed to PRMD Music and released their debut single “Smoke Signals” — to say nothing of the appearance on the 50th edition of The Radar. Now, the group made up of Manila Killa and Candle Weather have seen their debut get a futuristic remix courtesy of up-and-coming PRMD labelmate Electric Mantis.
Electric Mantis’ signature style, consisting of saturated sub-basses, generous reverb, adroit vocal chops, dry percussion that crackles and pops, rapid fire arpeggios that bleed into each other, and synth patches that wobble gently before lashing out like a whip are all on full display. The production is similarly complex — synths can appear only briefly and eclectic percussion rolls all over the sonic space while the vocals from Hotel Garuda’s original rest above. Mantis also cleverly uses the shape of his sounds and the production itself to add a kinetic element to the remix, giving the track a unique energy as it plays out.
