Moogfest installation lets you change Grimes’ music with your body [Video]
Moog’s biennial festival is always an ambitious convergence of art, music, and technology, and this year’s iteration is shaping up to be its best yet. Amidst appearances by IBM Watson and cyborg activists, the Durham, NC-centered party will host a Grimes-inspired art installation. Using Microsoft’s Kinect technology, viewers will be able to warp and distort the art angel herself with with motion and touch.
The installation, Realiti: Inside the Music of Grimes takes attendees into the literal belly of the beast with four mapped zones that correspond to pieces of the titular song from 2015’s Art Angels. Any change in motion or curious probe will alter the music being played over dozens of speakers in the room.
Microsoft have shared a trailer of the action in advance which shows the mechanics of the artful piece. The forward-thinking piece will be up for the duration of the festival from May 19-22.
