DA Premiere: Shiba San returns to Suara with ‘Got Drunk’ EP
While Shiba San is most closely associated with the Dirtybird crew — and his breakout 2014 hit “Okay” — the rather enigmatic French DJ has also put out a number of tracks on Barcelona based label, Suara.
Known for his unique musical style that’s part funk part g-house, with a whole lot of flavor, Shiba San has returned to Suara for the release of his forthcoming EP, Got Drunk. The EP features two original tracks from Shiba San, in addition to remixes from house mainstays Emanuel Satie and German Brigante.
Title track, “Got Drunk,” kicks things off with a jolt, cementing that (if there was any doubt) there’s nothing like a blaring rave horn to get the party started. Emanuel Satie’s ravemix of the track, however, takes a turn for the tech influenced. Laying in a massive build that precariously bubbles up to the drop, it’s a tad darker of an approach but nonetheless just as danceable.
“Hard Day” leaves the rave horn behind, but brings a warbling synth and echoing vocals along for the ride. Reimagining the arrangement in a deeper take is German Brigante’s remix of the track. It still features the same percussive furor as the original, and employs an unmistakably infectious hook.
Boisterous for the ears and undeniably catchy, Shiba San has once again delivered with his latest EP. While the feline friendly Suara may have initially proved an unlikely pairing for the DJ, it’s safe to say they’ve established a partnership that works. The complete Got Drunk EP will see its official release on May 9.
