Malaa – Diamonds (Original Mix)

Having seen massive success as the resident covert operative of DJ Snake, Tchami, and Mercer’s Pardon My French crew, Malaa‘s name has become synonymous with French G-House. In his short but significant tenure, the majority of Malaa’s releases have centered around bass-soaked G-house remixes. Though Malaa’s remixes are reliably danceable and heavy, they also tend to be largely homogenous.

With each original release on Tchami’s Confession label, however, the balaclava-clad bass purveyor seems to develop his style. “Diamonds” marks Malaa’s third release on the imprint, and is one of his most interesting to date. With its hip hop vocal motifs and balance of ominous and upbeat sensibilities, the track retains a number of the producer’s signature components, but also adds new stylistic traits. While “Diamonds” is unquestionably bass-heavy, Malaa opts for a high pitched minimal lead synth to elevate the track, tapping into a greater timbral range than previous releases from his catalogue.

“Diamonds” is the first single to drop from Malaa’s forthcoming Illicit EP, which is still pending a release date.
