Mayor of Tampa does not want Sunset Music Festival to return

Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn is not taking well to the two deaths and 57 hospitalizations that took place at last weekend’s Sunset Music Festival. 21-year-old Katie Bermudez of Kissimmee was taken to the hospital Saturday and died Monday, while 22-year-old Alex Haynes of Melbourne was hospitalized Saturday and died the following day.

Despite security’s increased presence this year compared to last, an ER nurse at a local hospital noted the influx of “back-to-back dehydrated children, all on Molly.”

Buckhorn commented, “You can’t necessarily assign blame, but clearly it is not an environment conducive to positive things happening. The Sports Authority, they need to look at whether that is an appropriate type of event for this community to host.”

Buckhorn continued: “The types of drugs that tend to be associated with those electronic dance music festivals obviously has catostrophic results for people who make bad decisions.

The drug conversation carries on, and yet still, very little has been accomplished to tackle the issue at hand.
