Rock AM Ring Festival reports 72 injuries due to lightning
At least 72 Rock AM Ring attendees were injured by a lightning strike during the 31st edition of the Mendig, Germany festival. Each of the victims were transported to the hospital for shocks, abrasions due to flying debris, or asthma attacks. Allegedly, one person was revived by paramedics and is currently in critical condition.
Rock AM Ring has since been suspended, with more bad weather expected to follow suit. The festival may re-open, weather permitting.
“The same stubborn gyre of low pressure aloft that triggered flooding rain in Germany and France also triggered thunderstorms in western Germany over the festival Friday night,” weather.com meteorologist Jon Erdman explained.
