San Holo – Still Looking (Original Mix) [Free Download]
It seems to be the case for many artists in the electronic music scene who experience a meteoric rise in popularity that they rather quickly move beyond releasing through other labels, opting to use their newfound popularity to build their own imprint. One recent example is the Dutch future bass prodigy San Holo, who up until recently released his music through some popular electronic music labels, most notably his EP release from the Canadian independent label Monstercat. Around a year ago, he began building his own platform, Bitbird, with which to express his and many others’ creativity to the world.
His newest release, titled “Still Looking,” is the first single from the new Gouldian Finch compilation coming from Bitbird. The track starts off with a mellow, fun beat accentuated by a high, chirping synth and backed by a subtle chord progression. The breaks are highlighted by a high, anime-style vocal chop that is almost understandable and provides a nice emotional, Porter-esque touch to the track’s overall feeling.
What really stands out, however, is the section immediately after the first drop, which brings back the beat from the very beginning of the song, yet with some unique sound design and unusual percussion samples that make this 30 seconds the focal point of the track.
