Where Sweden has excelled in the face of polished pop prospects and EDM poster boys, the Eurovision loving nation has been pretty dry where its trap exportables are concerned. Enter anonymous Scandinavian duo Total Ape, who have appeared seemingly out of nowhere this month with a debut single loud and bold enough to restore hope past the nation’s more segregated urban musical exploits.
From its warped brass hooks to the infectious vocal samples that follow its firm beat work, ‘Love You Better’ ticks all the right boxes without succumbing to some of the genre’s more tedious hallmarks. The track is executed with enough confidence to have us convinced it could have been given the pop crossover treatment, making it hard to think of a stronger possible start for Total Ape and their neo urban run at the electronic dance world.
