Anne-Marie – Alarm (Marshmello Remix)

For an international man of mystery, Marshmello has been very prominently in the public eye in 2016. He’s had a release on Monstercat, “Alone,” and seems to be hinting at an EP on OWSLA with a preview of a new track “Rituals.” Not content to wait for the release of that potential EP, the masked producer shows his range and remixes London singer-songwriter Anne-Marie‘s “Alarm”.

As can be expected, Marshmello sticks with his signature sound — a combination of carefree, future-tinged bass and just enough grit to really get a crowd going. After opening the track by placing Anne-Marie’s vocals in large space via reverb, Marshmello builds a foundation out of chord stabs and slinky synth lines. Anne-Marie’s vocals range from smooth and effortless to biting and powerful throughout the track, while Marshmello matches her intensity with his production. The energetic drop features grinding bass on the downbeats, while he chops up the vocals into a swirling, rising new melody before accompanying it with Anne-Marie’s unaltered hook.
