Ben Pearce cancels remaining 2016 tour dates due to mental illness
Ben Pearce has taken to Facebook to announce that he has canceled all remaining shows in 2016 due to his ongoing struggle with depression. In a frank note written to fans, the British DJ and producer revealed that he has suffered from the mental condition, in addition to social and performance anxiety for years, and that his symptoms have progressively grown worse over time. In the note, Pearce also admits to having attempted suicide more than once.
“It is real, it isn’t talked about enough in society or the music industry and I hope my fans and fellow industry members can understand my decision,” he wrote. “It can be easy to hide behind your social media or intoxicants and pretend it isn’t happening but that doesn’t help in the long run.”
While Pearce hopes to one day make it back to the stage, a live performance doesn’t seem to lie in the near future. At press time, Pearce is unsure whether or not he will continue to make music. Read his full statement below.
