A former church will be transformed into a new nightclub in Houston

A new nightclub is set to open its doors in downtown Houston at what was formerly First Church of Christ. The site, which first opened in 1961, sold to Zack Truesdell – owner of Clé, Saint Dane’s and Christian’s Tailgate – earlier this year for $2.25 million. Longtime cohorts Andy Estes, Salim Dehkordi and Dallas Rodriquez have joined the project as well. Two long time industry veterans, Chris Den Uijl and Will Runzel, will be heading up the club’s talent buying and their Sunday schedule is already looking vibe-y.

Spire, which takes its name after the golden spire atop the church, plans to open by the time the 2017 Super Bowl arrives. The 11,000 square-foot venue will not be exclusive to dance artists, though Truesdell aims to book electronic music acts “60% of the time.”

“We’re working to keep the integrity of the building and we’ve brought things back from the original plans,” he commented.
