[Updated] Tomorrowland reportedly planning Asian expansion

Tomorrowland has risen to global prominence over the last decade, and now that reputation may seem them arrive in Asia for the very first time. As reported by Thai news publication Post Today, Tomorrowland is currently in talks with promotional agency World Planet Entertainment about an official offshoot in Thailand.

World Planet Entertainment’s managing director Chatri Tungthiankul is confident that such an expansion could happen, although stresses the importance of working with the Thai government to facilitate the event.

“We have to prepare a venue that can host up to 450,000 attendees,” Tungthiankul said. “We will also have to be ready to facilitate the journey for festival-goers from other countries, specifically at the immigration control, because when people travel to the festival in other countries – Belgium, Brazil and the US – their personalised festival bracelet does all the work, including that of a passport.”

What’s more, Thailand isn’t the only country vying for Tomorrowland’s official Asian expansion. “China and Japan also expressed an interest in hosting the festival,” Tungthiankul added. Regardless of where Tomorrowland ends up, it appears an upcoming Asian edition is imminent.

Tomorrowland’s flagship event takes place in Boom, Belgium from July 22-24. Check out the full lineup here.

UPDATE: Tomorrowland denied any plans for an expansion to Asia, citing a mistranslation from Post Today. “We are not looking for another continent for the moment,” a rep for the company told Billboard. “We will organize Unite in two Asian countries this year: India and Japan.” Unite is a one-day event presented by Tomorrowland which has been held in India and Mexico in the past.
