Avicii will play his final scheduled show this weekend
It’s the end of an era. Avicii will perform his last scheduled show this weekend, officially commencing his retirement from touring. Avicii confirmed the news via Facebook, writing: “Thank you all my amazing fans for this sunday’s show. This upcoming weekend is the last chance to see ‘the hand’ doing it’s thing.”
Avicii’s final performance comes on Sunday from Ushuaïa Ibiza, where he’s held down a summer residency for the past five years.
Avicii shocked fans back in March when he announced 2016 would be his final year of touring. Citing health reasons for his early retirement, the Swedish producer claimed the scene was not meant for him, though vowed to continue producing music.
Hype for Avicii’s final shows expectedly went through the roof, though the producer later cancelled many of his biggest dates — including his final Las Vegas performances — due, again, to ongoing health concerns.
While this Sunday marks his final scheduled appearance for an indefinite period, Avicii hasn’t ruled out the possibility of future performances: “I can’t say I’m never going to have a show again,” he wrote in April.
