Cashmere Cat – Wild Love feat. The Weeknd & Francis and the Lights
With the hype consistently increasing around Cashmere Cat — mainly due to high-profile collaborations with artists such as Kanye West, whom he has worked with more than once, and Ariana Grande — things reached a boiling point when the Norwegian producer teased a collaboration with The Weeknd and then seemingly confirmed it would be the title track of his upcoming debut album Wild Love. The duo’s production has now made its way to the internet and also features contributions from Francis and the Lights.
Much like Cashmere Cat’s last release, “Wild Love” eschews the typical structure of intro-build-up-drop of most songs. Instead, the producer, born Magnus August Høiberg, opts for an atmospheric, slowly-building affair for The Weeknd to croon over. The track also boasts a clever inversion of the Cat’s predilection to manipulate vocal samples into melodic leads, instead repurposing them into a slightly auto-tuned chord patch that fills in the majority of the track’s space. It also portends a new, ambitious direction for the talented producer to explore more thoroughly when Wild Love is released.
