Just A Gent’s ‘Stories To Tell’ EP is an electronic masterpiece [Review]
Just A Gent‘s musicianship is incredible. From the first track he ever released, his electronic digs have continued to become increasingly refined. The masterful way in which he works his craft culminates in his Stories To Tell EP, which stands as a landmark release from the young artist. Growing as a musician in Australia, Just A Gent has clearly been influenced by the future bass offerings that have emerged from the island, but unlike many others, the artist has found a unique styling that only he can purvey.
Stories To Tell is not your average electronic release. The record has undergone many changes over the years; an EP with the same name but a completely different tracklist (save “Phenomenon”) was published to online music retailers in December 2014. After being quickly yanked from the public’s reach, Stories To Tell has remained rather mysterious. Finally, after over a year of waiting, Just A Gent is ready to share his debut EP with the world.
From “Sounds of Her Mind” to “The End,” Just A Gent’s work shines from top to bottom. A short, emotional intro is stuck on the beginning of the album, which serves as a nice touch, but it will likely fall short of memorable for most. However, the introduction seems to be the only shortcoming to the project. Just A Gent showcases a wide array of music knowledge and song writing talent on the EP, which contains nary a dull moment throughout its course. There is something for every sort of listener within Stories To Tell, and the sound engineering shines as a major catalyst for that impressive fact.
