London’s mayor responds to the outpouring of support for the city’s Fabric nightclub
Following the death of two attendees in one weekend, London’s legendary nightclub Fabric had its license temporarily revoked pending a review scheduled for next month. The club’s status in limbo led to an outpouring of support from DJ’s who recognize the club’s massive influence on London’s nightlife scene and led to the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, issuing a response.
In a tweet, Khan urged the Metropolitan Police, Islington Council, and Fabric’s management to work out a solution that will simultaneously protect the club’s patrons while preserving the club’s future. This is a major test of of Khan’s campaign promise to maintain the city’s club culture, which has faced considerable reduction due to the ongoing rise of gentrification.
