Trentemøller releases avant-garde music video for ‘Redefine’ [NSFW]
Classic synthesizer usage is coming back into vogue. Though the sharp instrumentation and dramatic drops of contemporary dance music currently dominate the scene, a new wave of retro-influenced electronic is taking over the underground and slowly bubbling up into the mainstream. One recent example of this trend was realized upon the release of Netflix’s critically-acclaimed series Stranger Things, whose period-appropriate soundtrack became almost as popular as the show itself.
Consistently ahead of his time, Trentemøller embraces classic sounds in his own way with “Redefine,” the second single off his forthcoming LP Fixion. The producer transforms older influences into new sounds with his composition, forging a production that places emphasis on futuristic melodies and tingling samples rooted in the style of the 1980s. A groovy bass line carries the song forward, complemented by haunting vocals that cast an avant-garde air over the its entirety.
We see the track premiered alongside an equally grungy and cutting-edge music video, which follows a dysfunctional relationship as the protagonist struggles to find her place.
